Tales Of The Unreal Is Back
Our third issue is our largest* and most ambitious. We’ve changed the recipe slightly: instead of exclusively horror, we asked the pulp and serial writers of the world to bring us their most imaginative works of Science Fiction. They did, and, unsurprisingly, this collection of Space Opera protagonists, Cyberpunk detectives, and undead NeoEgyptian Gods live in universes creeping with elements of the horrific and the macabre. As usual, we’re meeting these writers at their best, and we’re quite proud of all the work submitted.
We’ve also always wanted to publish poetry alongside our selection of pulp fiction works, as was the case in the original Weird Tales, but it has proven difficult to drum up interest in the form. Long gone are the days when the far off cosmos and worlds of fantasy are as abundant in verse as they are in prose. Additionally, whenever we did calls for poetry in the past, they were usually done at the very last minute. With Tales 3, we made a point to actively solicit poems alongside fiction, and we’re thrilled to share the works of these talented writers with you all. The first poem you will see is the hypnotic epic Star Treader by Clark Ashton Smith, a name that is probably very familiar to pulp fiction enjoyers. In addition to the four works of poetry, we’ve got the usual twelve Unreal pulp Tales that readers have come to expect.
The digital edition of Tales of the Unreal vol 3 is available for pre-order now, and will be released everywhere July 15th! The PDF will be uploaded to the usual spot around the same time.
*Not physically. Tales 3 will be pocketbook sized like the first issue.
